We tried 4 different sleeping masks, so you don’t have to.

Falling asleep can be hard enough without all the distractions. From trying to catch a few hours on a plane to sneaking a few z's while the baby sleeps or those desperate few extra hours on a Sunday morning. Any tool that can help you get a better night's sleep is worth its weight in gold. Eye masks are often an inexpensive gold mine. Today, one of our Dream Team, Rebecca and her family, has tried and reviewed our eye masks, giving you a great summary to make the best choice for your sleep.

Neptune 100% mulberry silk eye mask

Look and feel

Covered in the most amazing mulberry silk this mask feels like a chic luxury. Even the elastic is wrapped in this luxurious silk. Soft and flexible helping it moulds to your face keeping cool to touch.

Experience

My daughter has super curly hair and already uses a silk pillow so she was super excited to try this one and report back to me. She loved the feel on her skin, the pressure was just right. It wasn’t too hot or too cold

However, it did allow a little light in around the nose. Nothing that disappointed my daughter but if you are after a strong blackout mask this may not be for you. General use it's great and super gentle for sensitive skin.

Best for

  • Anyone wanting to prevent hair tangles or compression wrinkles.
  • The 100% mulberry silk will look after your hair and your skin.

Don’t use

  • If you move a lot in bed this will likely slip off and if you need 100% block out this isn’t enough.

Neptune Weighted Sleep Mask

Look and feel

Covered in soft velvet style material it comes with 2 inserts that allow you to change from a luxury cool mask to a relaxing weighted pressure. With small loop velcro on the back, it is easily adjusted for your situation and doesn't grab your hair.

Experience

Wow! This mask is so soft, completely blocked out the light and is very relaxing. The weight insert provides an amazing sense of comfort and desensitization. After a busy day, it helped me relax very quickly. They have stitched sections of the weight insert preventing the weights from all falling to one side, keeping the pressure even; however, it was a challenge to sleep with all night. I found that the weight caused the mask to shift. This didn’t bother me too much as I used the weight insert to help me wind down and then removed it before settling for sleep. The material alone worked perfectly for the rest of the night. The cool insert felt amazing on my eyes, again providing a relaxing sensation and fantastic when I had a headache.

Best for

  • People that struggle to wind down and night.
  • People suffering from migraines or headaches.
  • People who find weight comforting.
  • The cool gel could also benefit women suffering from hot flushes.
  • Great blockout.
  • The cool gel could also benefit women suffering with hot flushes.
  • Great blockout.

Don’t use

  • It would be difficult to use on a plane.
  • It would add to your luggage weight and would keep moving throughout your flight.

Memory Foam Sleep Mask

Look and feel

This thick luscious memory foam wraps from ear to ear. Soft and breathable it has a velcro stretch elastic band it is very comfortable to wear. It comes with gel inserts you can warm or cool depending on your needs and noise-cancelling earplugs.

Experience

I do really like this one. I used it while camping over the Easter break and those earplugs came in handy! It offers great blackout and the wrap around effect deeply desensitises you. I do enjoy the cool gel inserts when I have eye strain or a headache but they are smaller than the Neptune variety and lost their cool reasonably quickly. It’s soft and flexible and packed well in my bag so great for travel.

Best for

  • Travelling
  • Stability on your face

Don’t use

  • If you get hot easily, the memory foam can get warm

Contour Eye Mask

Look and feel

It’s a pretty simplistic mask. Made from a soft material it has an adjustable velcro strap and contoured, hollowed-out eye sections. While there is nothing mind-blowing about this mask, for its price point it really does deliver.

Experience

The moment I put this mask on I was impressed with the simplicity and comfort. The special raised eye sections will make you look a little bug-eyed but by keeping the material lifted off your eyes, you forget the mask is even there. In my case, I could open my eyes while wearing the mask without any sensation. It is flexible and foldable and didn’t shift at all through the night with me tossing and turning.

Best for

  • If you hate the feeling of a mask pressing against your eyes or eyelashes.
  • You need something lightweight for travel
  • You have eyelash extensions and don’t want any pressure on them.

Don’t use

  • If you have long hair, it can get a little caught in the velcro.
  • If you are after 100% blockout. It blocks out about 90% but some light does sneak a little around the nose. Nothing that affected me.

8/10

When finding the perfect sleeping eye mask for you, price and quality aren’t always in sync. Instead of thinking about your budget, evaluate what kind of sleeper you are (back, side, stomach) and what you want to achieve out of your eye mask. Do you find it hard to wind down? Bothered by sound or by light? suffer from headaches or migraines? Have sensitive skin? Answer these questions, and then pick the best mask for you based on our rankings.

Happy sleeping.
